Our Actors

For our music video me and my group member Kira both starred as lead actresses. The impression given off is that we are the artist of the song playing, our band name being KP&IZ. We didn’t want to include any male actors as in most EDM videos they have the dominant roles and the females are their  supporting actresses, this includes them being sexualised/used to show them off for visual purposes. We wanted to break that trend and have young girls be represented in a non sexual way and also in a dominant way without the need for a male to make our music video good.

Just like their album cover, Kygo still use their blue colour in their adverts. Instead of using a white background this time, they have opted for black to make the colours contrast with the pattern at the top. They have also used the same ‘paint’ effect for the name Kygo which further links in with their album cover. Their font style is very basic but eligible which is a must if it is going out to the public, their colours for their font is also very natural which doesn’t make the advert look messy or like there’s too much going on.

Costumes

As our music video is a ‘vlog’ style, costumes were not a number one priority for us. We wanted to make it look as authentic as possible so we chose outfits that we would normally wear if we were going out during the day. My outfits consisted of  black leggings, white trainers, a black coat with a fur hood and a black cap, my second outfit was the same but this time I changed my trainers to black and changed my jacket to a beige fur coat. My partners outfit also consisted of a white fur jacket, grey jeans, white trainers, a black rucksack and another white coat with a hood. We didn’t worry about continuity with outfits as we wanted to make it obvious that our scenes were filmed over a number of days, this differs to our film opening as outfits had to be identical when filming on different days.

Our Music

In order for us to get our track into iMovie, we had to download it (legally) from the internet to put it into our iTunes library. I done this by using YouTube converter where you take the link of the song and the website converts it into an mp3 file and downloads straight to your music library. This was very quick and convenient and we also used YouTube converter to get our song for our prelim.

Artist Analysis

DJ artist Kygo always stick with a running theme throughout their album covers, that being the colour blue. Just like Galantis they have stuck to a very basic image but have creatively used their chosen colour by having an ombré effect along the paint stripe, symbol at the top and the words “cloud nine”, this adds an extra bit of dimension to the artwork rather than having a block colour. It further stands out against the grey/white background. I like this album piece as it’s very simple but looks like a professional cover, the way the paint stripe is also dripping, gives it that bit of edginess.

Album Analysis

Looking at our chosen artist Galantis’s album cover, it’s very simple yet effective. They have their immediately recognisable animal taking up most of the frame with then a natural colour palette for the background, that still being with the theme of nature. Without even looking at the name, due to their ‘logo’ almost,  being in the centre the audience know straight away who’s album they are looking at. Their font is clever by having the artists name in bold with then the name being written in italic, this is where we took inspiration from when choosing the font for our video. This further highlights the artist.

Research

In order to see what other people thought of my chosen genre, I asked 20 people of ages 16-45 on what they thought EDM music videos consisted of, I then generalised their comments under four headings 1. Bright lights 2. Lots of people 3. Fast movement 4. Parties/clubs and created a pie chart with my data collected. Using this information we can make sure that we stick to the conventions of our genre.
