Inspiration Video

Image
For our music video we want to have an old camera retro effect. We have had to research different ways to make this happen without actually being able to use a vintage camera. We have looked at different mobile apps that we could film with but none contained the filters we were after, we then took to iMovie to see if we could play around with the saturation and other effects to get our desired look. Although we wanted to have this look for our video from the beginning, we took inspiration from the music video Him & I by G-Eazy.

These are some shots of our filming days in London, we captured both day and night and took different modes of transport such as walking, buses, trains and tubes to get the whole feel of central London and to also capture as many things as possible.

Change of Plan

Due to it being difficult to stage a party for our music video because of factors such as no location, lighting or enough people willing to be shown in it, we decided to change our plan by taking out the party scenes. This left us with our original love story lacking in a way that our two lovers meet without having the parties. After thinking it through some more, we came to the conclusion that our story board ideas were too far fetched for us to re create. While out in London together one day, me and Kira loved the way the streets and shops looked while covered in lights and the streets in general at night time. This gave us an idea to cut out all of our love concept and focus on getting shots of the streets, people and buildings of London both day and night using different angles, camera filters and shots. We would then include fast paced shots for when the song picks up its pace and shots with more of a calm feel for when the song is at its slowest.

Original Plan

This is the storyboard me and Kira created with our original plan. It starts off with a girl laying on her bed entering an imaginary world once she puts her headphones on as this is what triggers her to enter a 'new world'. The video then consists of the same girl finding love while attending many different parties that she walks through by going through doors that lead to the next location. It also follows other couples love stories which consist of same sex couples as we wanted our video to be diverse and not the typical love story which follows a boy and girl/man and woman. We would incorporate footage that Kira and I took while at concerts to also give it that party feel and to make it look more 'club like'.

Prelim

For our first attempt at what making a music video is like, me and my group chose the song Never Forget You by MNEK. We decided on this song as it didn't involve many lyrics which we thought would be easier when it came to editing as we would only have to make our shots match up with the original video. We found that some of our clips were not long enough and therefore towards the end the small bit of lip syncing we had didn't match with the soundtrack. This is something we will have to work on when it comes to filming our final product.

Editing

Here you can see me and Kira editing our video, this is where we played around with stabilising our clips to make certain shots more smooth so there was a contrast between this and the shaky parts of our video. We wanted to do this in order to make our visuals more exciting

Storyboarding

Last year when working on my film project, storyboarding was very useful to plan out our scenes, if not to just give us a rough idea. I found that along the way we changed a few things such as an angle or how long the scene would go on for so not all our planning was set in stone. I feel that this time around with our music video, our storyboarding will change a lot more often due to us needing so many scenes. Also I feel that because we are working with lyrics, our views on what we what it to represent will change too.

Artists

Mine and Kiras choice of artist is the Swedish electronic dance duo Galantis. They are instantly recognised by their use of animals for peoples faces during their videos and also for their artwork which contain many colours. Galantis are all about their use of colour both on stage and in their music videos which not necessarily sets them apart from other artists but makes them conform to the ED genre. We decided to choose this group as me and Kira attended a DJ Snake concert which made us fall in love with the ED genre.   DJ Snake  DJ Snake has a very similar sound as well as image, he's very upbeat and has that electric dance feel. Just like Galantis' music videos, theres lots of colour and shots of people dancing as well as including scenes from their concerts which many dj's tend to do as you get to see how their music makes others feel. DJ Snake also uses a similar image of a lion to represent him, Galantis also use animals for their album artwork and in their music...
